Overview

This bridge was constructed about 4 kilometers upstream from the mouth of the Tokachi River in order make the bridge length as short as possible while considering the terrain. The main span is a PC non-uniform section continuous box girder, and the side span is a PC uniform section continuous box girder type. These shapes were selected considering future maintenance management, such as resistance to salt damage from the nearby ocean, early spring snowmelt flooding in the river, and construction constraints.

During construction, two sets of three spans of continuous box girders (3 at 63.3 meters) from the abutment A1 of the side span unit and three spans (3 at 61.3 meters) from the abutment A2 were constructed by the extrusion method, while three spans of continuous box girders in the main span were constructed by the overhanging erection method.
